Low-Altitude Economy: "Drone Takeoff Reliability Index" and "Drone Satellite Signal Anti-Jamming" R&D Projects

In response to the Policy Address to promote the development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy, X Social Group Holdings Limited jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Damoda UAV(HK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on December 18, 2024, to facilitate collaboration between the drone industry and academia.

The focus of this collaboration is to launch the "Drone Takeoff Reliability Index" and "Satellite Signal Anti-Jamming Technology for Drones." These indicators will analyse climate factors and signal interference data, providing objective quantitative standards for the development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy and further promoting the growth of related industries. The enhancement in research and practice in the field of drones will inject new momentum into Hong Kong's low-altitude economy.

Areas of Collaboration for Project Development Signing Ceremony:

  • Research on Drone Takeoff Reliability Assessment: This involves studying various influencing factors during the drone takeoff process, including weather, equipment status, and operational environment, to develop and validate a calculation model for the Drone Takeoff Reliability Index.

  • Development of Anti-Jamming Technology: This aims to explore the characteristics of interference signals affecting drones and develop anti-jamming algorithms and technologies to enhance operational stability in interference-prone environments.

  • Data Sharing and Analysis: The Department of Aviation and Aeronautical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, along with X Social Group and Damoda Hong Kong, will share drone flight data and experimental results to deepen relevant research.

  • Hardware Support: Necessary hardware facilities and experimental equipment will be provided to support the collaborative research among the three parties.

  • Project Funding and Resource Integration: The parties will explore the possibility of jointly applying for research funding to support related research projects, integrating their technical resources and team strengths to enhance collaboration efficiency.

In the context of the rapid development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy, the two innovative research directions—"Drone Takeoff Reliability Index" and "Satellite Signal Anti-Jamming Technology"—will bring technical breakthroughs to the industry and provide crucial support for the implementation of policies. This collaboration will not only promote further advancements in drone technology but also inject fresh momentum into

Hong Kong's low-altitude economy, thereby facilitating urban innovation and technological development.

X Social Group CEO Mr. Samuel lam stated that with the Policy Address actively promoting the development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy, we are facing unprecedented opportunities. In recent years, X Social Group and Damoda have successfully established several drone performance cases in Victoria Harbour. Through continuous experience accumulation and data analysis, we have developed a set of drone performance standards unique to Hong Kong. As one of the first operators in Hong Kong's low-altitude economy, our goal is to apply these flight standards to other drone projects, such as tourism, medical emergencies, monitoring, and delivery.

However, in past performances, we have been affected by uncontrollable factors, such as satellite signals. In the face of these challenges, we firmly believe that by integrating the resources of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with our industry expertise, we can effectively enhance and support the development of Hong Kong's low-altitude

economy. To this end, we will soon launch the "Drone Takeoff Reliability Index" in collaboration with the university. This index will be based on multidimensional analyses, including composite KP values, the global geomagnetic disturbance index provided by the Meteorological Administration, real-time astronomical data, as well as the distribution, positioning, and number of satellites. Additionally, ground and aerial wind speeds, rainfall, and cloud thickness will also be considered to ensure the safety and stability of drone takeoffs. The "Drone Takeoff Reliability Index" is scheduled for data collection and organization in the first quarter of 2025, with discussions in the fourth quarter regarding the announcement channels with various low-altitude economic associations and government departments.

Furthermore, we will collaborate on the research of "Satellite Signal Anti-Jamming Technology for Drones" providing objective quantitative standards for the low-altitude economy in Hong Kong. This will not only assist the Hong Kong SAR government in formulating more effective low-altitude economic development strategies but also position Hong Kong prominently in the global drone industry. This strategic cooperation marks a new starting point for innovation in drone performance technology and will drive the vigorous development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy while ensuring safety, serving as a significant milestone.

Samuel highlights that We are entering an era of cross-boundary collaboration, and we look forward to working hand in hand with the government, business, and education sectors to make Hong Kong an innovative hub for the global low-altitude economy, injecting new vitality into future technological and economic development. Let us spread our wings and embrace a brighter tomorrow together!

Mr. Justin Yeung, Director of Damoda UAV (HK) said “Damoda is a high-tech enterprise focused on research and application of drone flight control systems and swarm technology, possessing leading technological capabilities globally. In September 2024, we successfully challenged a performance controlling 10,197 drones with a single ground station, setting two Guinness World Records. We look forward to closely collaborating with The Hong Kong

Polytechnic University and X Social Group Ltd. to jointly promote the development of Hong Kong's low-altitude economy.
