Low Altitude Economy: Unveiling Hong Kong's Drone Show – How Thousands of Drones Dance in the Sky?

When you gaze at the night sky over Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong, seeing thousands of drones forming stunning patterns with precise formations, have you ever wondered how this technological magic is achieved? Today, we will reveal the secrets behind this visual feast and how these "aerial artworks" are perfectly orchestrated!

Hardware: The "Super Equipment" of Drones

Drones are not ordinary toys; they are registered and approved by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department. Each drone is equipped with high-precision positioning modules (GPS + BeiDou dual-system) and an RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) receiver, achieving positioning accuracy of 1-2 centimeters—like drawing with a needle in the night sky!

Additionally, these drones are built with environmental sensors and obstacle avoidance systems, akin to having a "sixth sense." They can detect wind speed, airflow, and even avoid other drones. Their RGB LED light sets are like chameleons, capable of adjusting color and brightness based on commands, offering over a thousand colors for breathtaking visual effects.

Software: The Precision Command of AI Brains

If hardware is the body of the drones, then software is their "brain." Through a 3D flight programming platform, designers can transform performance content into flight paths, altitudes, speeds, and lighting commands for each drone. It’s like rehearsing a grand dance in a virtual world, with AI ensuring each drone hits the right beat.

The drone system also employs artificial potential field algorithms, allowing drones to fly in coordination like a swarm. They automatically calculate repulsion (to avoid collisions) and attraction (to maintain formation), ensuring perfect alignment even in strong winds. If a drone falls behind, the system activates a "dynamic replacement mode," letting nearby drones fill the gap or automatically tighten the formation, ensuring the performance remains unaffected.

Operations: The Perfect Process from Takeoff to Landing

A successful drone show relies on a precise operational workflow.

Phase 1: Pre-Planning and Simulation

Before the performance, the team conducts 3D radar mapping of the venue, creating a millimeter-accurate digital twin model and analyzing the electromagnetic environment to avoid interference. Designers arrange the performance content in the software, which automatically splits it into thousands of independent flight trajectories, rehearsing the synchronization of lights and movements with an error margin of less than 0.1 seconds!

Phase 2: On-Site Deployment and Calibration

On the day of the performance, drones are arranged in a "honeycomb grid" on the takeoff and landing platform, with a spacing of only 30-50 centimeters between each drone. They automatically identify their numbers through QR code scanning. After the RTK base station is activated, drones complete centimeter-level positioning calibration to ensure each one is precisely in place.

Phase 3: Flight Control and Monitoring

At takeoff, drones ascend in batches to avoid communication bandwidth overload. During flight, each drone transmits environmental data, allowing AI algorithms to dynamically adjust trajectories. Operators monitor the overall formation through a "God's view" 3D interface, ready to respond to unexpected situations at any time.

Phase 4: Landing and Recovery

After the performance, drones land in reverse order to avoid collisions. Once on the ground, they automatically upload flight logs, marking any abnormal units for maintenance! The drones are also equipped with parachutes, allowing them to land safely in emergencies to prevent accidents.

Drone Technology:

Damoda has pioneered automated rapid charging and integration technology for commercial drone applications, enabling automated operation of drone performance systems. Through a dual power supply system, the drone performance system can achieve one-time venue deployment and infinite continuous flight, eliminating the cumbersome manual plug-and-charge operations. This technology effectively reduces costs and enhances efficiency, revolutionizing traditional models and ushering in a new era of "infinite continuous flight" for drone performance systems.

Our drones are upgraded to the IP54 protection standard, ensuring stable flight even in light rain. Their adaptability has also been enhanced, maintaining stable flight in extreme cold down to -20 degrees Celsius. In emergencies, the drones are equipped with intelligent parachute devices that automatically trigger at a height of 60 meters, achieving automatic deployment and increasing flight reliability to 99.999%.

With continuous algorithm upgrades, the speed of drone image formation has significantly improved, effectively reducing audience wait times. The communication range of drones can reach 2 kilometers, with triple backup through 5G Wi-Fi, 2.5G radio stations, and 900M radio station differential signals, ensuring the safety of system link data.

The algorithm can automatically map the position information of each drone, and a one-click termination function allows users to maintain control, effectively responding to unexpected risks. RTK differential positioning technology enhances positioning accuracy to the millimeter level. The drone lighting system can freely switch between over 1,000 colors, greatly enhancing the viewing experience and making performances more exquisite and realistic.

What’s even more exciting is our plan to integrate AR technology, allowing the audience to interact in real time with the drone lights through a mobile app, making every performance a unique experience.

A Technological Miracle in the Night Sky

The Hong Kong drone show is not just a visual feast; it is a perfect combination of technology and art. Through the efforts of the team, we witness breathtaking "aerial ballets" and see how technology transforms the impossible into reality. Next time you look up at the night sky and see those twinkling drones, remember the story behind them—this is a culmination of precision calculation, intelligence, and creativity!
